Winter Planning Leads To Spring Savings And Summer Fun
If you’ve gotten into the habit of inspecting your above ground pool area during the winter, remember that these brief moments tending to your swimming pool can also be put to valuable healthy use…by daydreaming a little!
Winter is the perfect time to think about the projects, products or additions you longed for during the previous swimming pool season.
Maybe it’s time to install that gazebo, or add a patio or walkway to your backyard retreat. Maybe you’ve though about installing outdoor lighting, or have been dreaming of a new barbeque grill. Or maybe it’s time for new landscaping additions to complete the perfect backyard picture.
Winter months are an ideal time to plan for outdoor additions and projects related to your swimming pool, primarily because you can take advantage of being an early bird during the upcoming building season. Many retailers and suppliers offer hard-to-beat early season sales of all kinds of inventory, kit packages and supplies — chief among them, outdoor grills and building materials.
Proper planning in the winter months also allows you to arrange a contractor early — getting the best rates and the earliest schedule before the busy season begins. And depending upon where you live, your local borough or township office is probably far less busy during the off season; likely meaning a faster response time to any requests for building code information, requirements or permits.
As a general rule of thumb, ground conditions (for the installation of gazebo posts or concrete footings and concrete pads) need to be above freezing at the frost line—approximately 36” into the earth. That means your summer projects can usually be completed by mid spring, but only if you commit to a little daydreaming, and proper planning, during the winter months.
